In an effort to get people to stop catching and eating fish or supporting the fishing industry, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has started a new rebranding compaign.
The new name for FISH is SEA KITTEN. The object is to think of the creatures formerly known as fish like they are cuddly sweet kitties of the sea.
Initially I thought this was laughable. And honestly, I like to eat Sea Kitten. I like Pink Sea Kitten (salmon) quite a lot. I like Japanese Style Sea Kitten (sushi), I like Flat Sea Kitten (flounder). I could go on, but I won’t.
Now, I am not so sure it is really a crazy idea. We have been overfishing in many areas. Maybe this isn’t so crazy after all.
So, how do you feel about Kittens of the Sea?
Steven Colbert now calls real Kittens “Land Fish.” And I think he is starting a campaign to actually eat those.
