Edith Piaf, La Vie en Rose

well summer is here…..holy heat wave

Well, on Monday a friend and I were talking on the phone and complaining how we have not had a real summer in about 2 or 3 years.  The next day hot, the next hotter, and so on.  I sit here sweating as I write this, drinking a cold drink over icecubes, and ugh…I think I may be melting.  I just came back from the grocery store, and most of the icecream was sold out.

Tomorrows menu is a giant salad and lemon sorbet and I am going to try to avoid making anything hot until this heat wave passes.

Oh I just had a thought.  I guess this is the perfect time of year for the naked Germans.

my movie picks

The weather has been rather blech…so, I have watched plenty of movies the past few days.  Here are some of my recommendations.

I really enjoyed

curious-case-of-benjamin-button-poster-0 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Very sweet film.

Also, W. was rather cool.  Loved Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Chaney.

Also a couple more films:

And also, Bill Maher:

House withdrawals

Season-5-Promo-house-md-6296938-1355-1104 I have now watched every single episode of House made.  All five seasons.  (43 minutes an episode times about 110 episodes, that is over 86 hours of House)   I just finished them yesterday.  Now what am I going to do?  Wait until September for the season to start again?  Wait a week between each episode?

I am feeling a bit blue.  When I wasn’t working, traveling to work, making dinner, or taking a shower, or sleeping, I was wathing House for the past several weeks.

Anyone have a TV show to recommend that I can marathon on?

so where is the gorilla?

Flashback to 1998.  I was working in Biloxi and since I did not gamble, there was not much to do after work for me.  I would sometimes go to the movies with a friend of mine.  So one night, after work, I was sitting in a dark theater with my popcorn and cherry coke, anxiously waiting to see the movie with the big gorilla.

So, about an hour into the movie, Brad Pitt is there, but no freaking gorilla.  I was beginning to get annoyed.  I turned to my friend and asked,

“so where is the gorilla?”

She starts laughing really hard.  Enough to make people in front of us get quite angry and begin to “shush” us.

Turns out I thought we were going to see this movie:

But really, we went to see this one:

I was so disappointed that there was no giant gorilla, that I didn’t pay much attention to the movie.

Sunday Night Blues and Monday Morning Blahs

Last night I was going to do a post on Sunday Night Blues/Sunday Night Depression, but I was too blue to do it.

I did read many articles on what it was and what to do about it.  None of the advice was helpful.  Some of the things I read:

1) Nearly everyone gets a bit of the Sunday Night Blues. even happy employees.

2) This feeling usual starts somewhere between 4 and 7 pm

3) Don’t schedule tasks you need to do on the weekend after the hours of 6pm

4) plan something fun every Sunday evening.  Such as having dinner with friends, getting together and watching a movie, taking a long walk outside.

Blah Blah Blah.  Nothing will change the fact that we have to get up and go back to the work week.

The only time I don’t have the Sunday Blues is when I am not scheduled to work on Monday.

Anyway, HAPPY MONDAY

“Teardrop” by Massive Attack (theme song from House MD)

This is the theme song from Dr. House.  The song is called “Teardrop” by the group Massive Attack.  Great song.

Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Nine night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Stumbling a little
Stumbling a little

I am now just at the beginning of Season Three  in my House-athon.  Great show.  The acting is wonderful, the characters are interesting and I have to admit, I think that Hugh Laurie is über sexy.

I am going to talk about English, am I not?

Today I did question tags with The Beginners English class.  They are almost finished their Intensive English Program.  The are completing 2 full levels of English in an 8 week, 8 hours a day program.

So the question tags were today. They did GREAT. Until:

Aren’t I” came up.

I am going to the party with you, aren’t I?

Wait a minute!  That is bad grammar, isn’t it?

Yes, indeed it is.  It is proper and correct to say or write

I am going to the party with you, am I not?

The really horrible part was that I did not have an explanation why English speakers use aren’t I, and why it was the answer in the back of their book..  So during our break, I hit the internet, and came up with:

1) aren’t I is a contraction of am I not

(huh? what?)

2) that aren’t I is acceptable in SPOKEN English but not written English

3) aren’t I offends grammar sticklers
